Chin Liposuction for Excess Fat Removal

Updated: Apr 27, 2023

Liposuction just under the chin is referred to as chin liposuction. In certain people, that region may accumulate fatty deposits that don't vanish even when a person loses weight. Most of the time, it's because they were born with them. People use a variety of tactics to reduce fat around their chins, including wearing chin support and stretching exercises. Frequently, these exercises don't work because the patient is either a little overweight or it's simply in their genes to carry weight there. However, chin liposuction removes fat cells and causes the muscle to tighten.

Additionally, the skin under the chin is tightened, which creates a definition around the jawline. The treatment involves removing fat from the bottom of the ear to the chin. The operation is usually not done only under the chin by surgeons. They also remove fat around and underneath the jawline, extending towards the ear.

Am I a Good Candidate for Chin Liposuction?

Patients who are GOOD CANDIDATES are:

  • People in their late teenage years need jaw surgery to correct their bite and liposuction to remove fat deposits.

  • Liposuction is a surgical procedure that removes fat deposits from the chin and jaw regions. It removes fatty tissue in patients over 60 or 70 years old, especially along the jawline and beneath the chin. Liposuction won't provide enough tightening to compensate for their age. In addition to chin liposuction, they may get a facelift or a neck lift.

  • Patients with good skin elasticity.

Patients who are NOT GOOD CANDIDATES include:

  • People who want more extreme results that come from a facelift or other type of surgery to tighten skin

  • Patients with very tight and non-elastic skin

  • Patients with saggy muscles and excess skin

How is Chin Liposuction Performed?

The doctor will first numb the region with lidocaine and a vasoconstrictor such as epinephrine to decrease discomfort and bleeding. The surgeon will then make two small incisions before inserting a cannula into the wounds. A cannula is inserted through the incisions to remove the required amount of fat and liquid.

Two incisions are made during chin liposuction: one behind each earlobe and another just under the chin. The scars from these incisions are very small and generally don't need stitches. If a patient has a lot of fat, the size of the chin incision will be slightly larger to reach the fat below the muscle. Liposuction with direct fat excision is typically necessary for patients with a lot of fat. The combination may result in a larger scar, but it allows the surgeon to sew the muscles together beneath the chin while still making the chin neckline appear smaller.

Advantages over Other Techniques

Various procedures utilize heat, ultrasonic waves, and ice to freeze fat cells. There are several ways to attempt and eliminate fat with a liposuction technique.

Kybella is injected into the target area, and deoxycholic acid breaks down the fat cells. The body then filters it out through multiple treatments, depending on how much fat reduction is desired. This process is similar to CoolSculpting, which freezes the fat cells. Liposuction allows surgeons to contour treated areas directly, resulting in patients seeing drastic results immediately.

What is the Cost of Chin Liposuction?

The cost of chin liposuction depends on a few factors, including the amount of fat removed from the chin area and the fees charged by the doctor or surgery center. Prices can also vary depending on location, with surgeries in larger cities costing more than those in smaller towns.

Recovery and Downtime

The recovery process from chin liposuction is not as painful as one might think. To help reduce bruising and swelling, the patient has to wear a support corset under the neck and around the head. The corset also supports the skin under the chin so that it will not sag down as it shrinks to fit the new contour. Patients must wear that for the first few days, only at night for two or three more days. With only DOWNTIME, most people can return to work in about three to five days.

Results

If you get chin liposuction, the fat cells are removed permanently. If you gain an extra 50 pounds, later on, you will gain fat all over your body--including under the chin--but it will be less than if you hadn't gotten the surgery in the first place. Thankfully, the treated area won't have more fat than others; it's dispersed evenly throughout your entire body.

The recovery is rapid, and the outcomes allow a lot of patients to avoid neck lifts or facelifts. This may be viewed as a preventative treatment for the neck lift since it forms a scar under the skin that restricts the skin. Because it is beneath the skin, the scar is not visible.

Limitations of Chin Liposuction

Limitations of chin liposuction include:

  • The amount of dramatic results it can provide since it is a limited amount of liposuction being performed on the chin

  • The ability to have the procedure is limited by the amount of patient skin elasticity

  • Chin liposuction is a surgical procedure so it is limited to only patients who are willing to have a surgical procedure

Risks of Chin Liposuction

Some commons risks of chin liposuction are:

  • Damage to deeper structures

  • Infection

  • Asymmetry in the results

  • Burns

  • Bruising

  • Injury to the sensory nerve as well as the nerve that moves the face

  • Swelling

  • Numbness

Restoring Self-Esteem

Undergoing chin liposuction provides immediate results that will leave you feeling satisfied. Many patients feel happy with the procedure because they see results right away. Not to mention, chin liposuction also gives patients a better sense of self-esteem and confidence when around others.
